Snow chains help the front drive wheels maintain grip in the snowiest and iciest conditions. Even in difficult conditions, they are easy to fit.


FIRST-AID KIT
The first-aid kit is conveniently carried in the load compartment and contains a variety of bandages. The contents are stored in different compartments to make it easier to find what you want in an emergency.

JUMPER CABLES
These 11.5 foot jumper cables make it possible to "borrow" current from either a separate battery or from another car -- or the other way around. Strong clamps with insulated handles offer you the peace of mind that comes with added protection.

MIRROR
Attached to the middle rear head restraint, this easily detachable mirror lets you keep a watchful eye on a child in a rearward-facing child safety seat if they're in the back of your car.

PORTABLE NAVIGATION SYSTEM
Navigate with style and ease. This new ultra-thin versatile Garmin nüvi 3790 navigation unit integrates smoothly with the design of your Volvo. Just fit it into the docking unit at the windshield pillar. Find the shortest, fastest or most fuel-saving route – voice recognition control and convenient multi-touch glass screen technology facilitates operation. Just keep your hands on the steering wheel and the system will act upon your spoken commands. Major buildings and points of interest are displayed in 3D to enhance your overview, and in junctions you're conveniently guided to the right lane at the right time. Using Traffic Message Channel (TMC) radio data technology, the navigation system will let you know if there are traffic disturbances on your route and recommend an alternative. And the navigation unit is easy to use outside the automobile – it even remembers where you parked your automobile.

REAR SEAT ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM (RSE)
Rear Seat Entertainment System with Dual DVD Players - features two 7" LCD monitors and two DVD players built into the headrest. This advanced dual screen technology provides users the option of viewing DVD's, listening to music or playing games simultaneously on both monitors.
Sound is generated through wireless headphones or through the cars audio system utilizing the integrated aux input. The headrests match the interior color of the car as well.

RUNNING BOARDS
The running boards are smoothly integrated with the sills to enhance the versatile character of the Volvo XC90. You can stand on these to reach the roof and they also make it easier to step in or out of the vehicle.


SILVER CROSS BARS
An aerodynamic design element that compliments the aluminum roof rails and the Volvo design. These aluminum crossbars also allow you to utilize the roof’s load-carrying capacity.

Safety Preventive
Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) By helping prevent fishtails, spinouts, and rollovers, stability control technology like DSTC has been described as one of the most vital safety advances of the past decade. At the core of DSTC, a gyroscope senses the car’s direction and compares this with steering wheel movements as well as the actual rotation of the car’s wheels. DSTC is able to detect a potential skid and help counteract this by reducing the engine’s power output, or braking on one or more wheels.
Dual Xenon Headlights with Active Bending Lights (ABL)*

In addition to improving illumination by about using Dual Xenon light technology, the Active Bending Lights give a boost to your vision round bends at night. Controlled by microprocessors, the motorised lamps turn up to 15 degrees in either direction when driving – reliably lighting up your chosen path. A twilight sensor disengages the adaptive function during daylight to extend its life span.

In the event of an emergency manuever, Volvo’s Roll Stability Control (RSC) can step in to help prevent the vehicle from rolling over. It features a gyroscopic sensor that registers the vehicle’s lean angle and rollover risk. If required, RSC will cut engine power or brake one or more of the wheels just enough to reduce the centrifugal force and help regain balance.

Frontal structure
The generous front deformation zones are designed to yield in a controlled way to help absorb crash energy before it reaches the cabin. The transversely mounted and very compact engine enables optimal use of the deformation zones to help protect occupants. Longitudinal steel struts help disperse crash energy away from the front to the rear of the vehicle, further helping to reduce the strain on the occupants.

SAFETY Protective
Volvo’s interactive safety technologies In a Volvo, safety is about interaction. Because it’s not the number of safety features that determines how safe a car is, it’s how well they seamlessly interact to help protect the
occupants in the event of a collision.
IN A REAR IMPACT the rear deformation zones will help absorb crash energy. Even behind the third row there’s a good deal of space to help provide effective protection. The fuel tank is designed to remain well protected in front of the rear axle.

The head restraints help protect the neck and spine, and  Volvo’s unique Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) cradles the front seat occupants in a controlled manner to help prevent whiplash injuries.
IN A SIDE IMPACT Volvo’s unique Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) helps distribute the crash forces across the car’s body, away from the occupants. The side airbags in the front seats help protect the chest and hip, while the Inflatable Curtain (IC) adds head protection for all outboard occupants, including the ones in the third row.

IN A ROLL-OVER a gyroscope activates Volvo’s Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS). The safety belt pre-tensioners deploy to help keep occupants more securely restrained, and the Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps provide head protection. Additionally, the safety cage is reinforced to help keep the passenger compartment intact.
IN A FRONTAL COLLISION the generous deformation zones will yield to help absorb crash energy. The compact power train is designed to help optimise deformation. Inside the vehicle, safety belts interact with the collapsible steering column and dual-stage airbags to help keep the occupants out of harm’s way. A lower cross member helps protect occupants in an oncoming car with lower positioned bumpers. The front and bonnet are also designed to help reduce the risk of injury to unprotected road-users.

Volvo XC60 Wins Prestigious 2010 International Truck of the Year Award
The Volvo XC60 was named 2010 International Truck of the Year by the International Car of the Year (ICOTY) jury on December 2. The award was given to Doug Speck, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, LLC at the Volvo display at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The XC60 was chosen over 10 new crossovers, SUVs and trucks by a distinguished panel of top automotive journalists.

"This ties a very pretty bow around what's been a truly amazing year for Volvo," commented Speck. "The XC60 has not only been recognized by the media but it's been extremely well received by our customers."

The 2010 XC60 has helped VCNA earn six consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases since June.

The XC60 was chosen the winner from a panel of 19 automotive media from around the U.S. and Canada representing top newspapers, magazines and websites. The jurors must consider the ICOTY mission of "honoring vehicles that reflect an emotional connection between car and consumer lifestyles" when making their nominations.

"The ICOTY awards are not centered on power and performance," said Courtney Caldwell, ICOTY's creator and executive producer. "It's about how cars reflect our personalities, lifestyles and self image, an attitude most consumers identify with."

"This is one of the most prestigious car awards in the world and we feel very proud to receive it for our best-selling XC60", said Stephen Odell, President and CEO Volvo Car Corporation.

Once approved by the ICOTY nominating committee, the awards jury then bases their decision on a number of important criteria: The vehicle must be new or substantially revised, it must be offered for sale to the general public by the judging deadline of November 16, 2009, and may not have been previously considered for the ICOTY Awards.

The International Truck of the Year award marks the 20th accolade the Volvo XC60 has received since sales began in Europe in late 2008. The XC60 is the first vehicle to offer City Safety as standard equipment. This unique Volvo technology can help the driver avoid frontal collisions at low speed. If the driver is about to drive into the rear of a vehicle and does not react in time, the XC60 will apply the brakes by itself.

The Volvo XC60 T6 AWD is one of the best-driving, most comfortable, safest, and best-engineered vehicles on the road today. The only slight mark against this powerful SUV is that the Volvo S60 outshines it for safety and acceleration — a few antiquated features that Volvo needs to resolve in the next model year.

It’s not every day that you come away from a week-long test and realize you have driven one of the best cars on the road. And we have driven some really good ones lately: the Audi A8, the Ford Explorer, and the Nissan Juke were all leaders in their class. The Volvo XC60 has that extra “something” that sets it apart.

First, a word about price: We drove the highest-end version of the 2010 XC60, the T6 AWD R-Design, with a 300-horespower engine and $38,400 price tag. There is a non-R-Design version that also has a 300-hp engine, but our XC60 T6 has a turbo-charged engine that puts out 325-lb-ft of torque at 6200 rpm, the R-Design that is not a T6 AWD has 236-lb-ft of torque. So we had the best of both worlds: the T6 turbo and the R-Design styling. Scandinavian luxury comes at a premium, of course: The entry-level Ford Explorer is $26,190. A more apt comparison is the BMW X6 crossover that starts at about $52,000.
